Florida offers 92 Phlebotomy and Medical Assistance programs to choose from. It’s more than enough to launch your career in healthcare with this entry-level career.

Sunshine State phlebotomists earn $16 hourly, on average, with the potential to increase this number as you gain more experience and optional certification.

Most of the curriculums are 165 hours in total, with about 100 of them being clinical practice. It’s more than enough to gain all skills needed in order to sit certifying exams from top-tier institutions like NHA.

In terms of pre-requisites, Florida is no different from other states. To get enrolled in a phlebotomy program here, at minimum, you will need a high-school diploma or GED.

On top of that, schools usually require your immunizations, background check, and drug scanning.

Florida Phlebotomy Certification and Licensure

Neither certification nor licensing is required at the state level in Florida.

Despite a significant portion of the training curriculum devoted to clinical practice in Florida phlebotomy schools, employers still want to see certifying credentials from reputable 3-rd party institutions, whether it’s the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT), or other.

Florida Phlebotomist Salaries

Salaries for phlebotomists in Florida are slightly lower compared to the national average, but it’s not an issue for several reasons.

First, Florida has no state income tax. Secondly, the cost of living is very reasonable. On top of that, you have a large amount of aging population, which means that job prospects for phlebotomists are extremely promising.
